So I finally have a chance to make and wear one of my fave Disney costumes: Cinderella
I am being cheeky and doing a blend of promo and actual costume. So it is light blue with a silver overlay. I have *just* enough of the blue from Glinda’s petals to make the skirt and bodice and a bodice for glinda. So in theory it only is the netting that is new. I was going to use some of my stunning shot blue taffeta but I really do think that is better for a smocked francaise, 1660s or Guardainfanta gown. I only have nearly 9m of it so it’s not an option.
Might just drape it on the stand to see how it looks ![]()
But yes. Cinders
Light and able to be packed with minimal fuss and finally a chance to use my own (newly naturally curly) hair for a vintage look
Cinderella :)
Excellent day :)
Spent with V. and little J. we went hunting for linen and pigments for V. and I was randomly looking for stuff
I have more air for my airbrush! Woo! just until I find an appropriate compressor to match my airbrush (matching PSI and physical connections).
I also have some pure pigment
I will mix it in with my white latona and start sponging my Asari tentacles
Also lace for Mon Mothma! Woo! That was the last thing I needed to finish the never ending “simple” project from 2005 0_O
And finally 36m (more like 40 or 45) of gold plaited braid
I will finally make my Guardainfanta! Woo! Just need to decide what fabric to use. Satin is nearly exclusively used but may look at what I have in stash. I have my lovely shot blue taffeta which is earmarked for a francaise but that should be no more than 9m for skirt, robe, and robings which should leave 7m if I do indeed have 16m of it (can’t recall how much was left on the roll).
Also the crinkle shot taffeta may be able to be pressed flat and that would be really nice. But that may also be a fantasy dress of some sort.
If I could find reference to velvet I’d love to use thepale velvet I got from Sallies the other month. Some research is in o
1912 mania ;)
I haven’t really been bitten but it may just be the year I finally make this:
I patterned it back in ’06ish so it would be quite a good time to get it sorted. I prefer 1906-1909 anyway
Would make it from my red cotton sateen which is a very appropriate fabric for the time. It just won’t be quite as rich as this
Liara Progress
Well what I intend to do today
Make my fabrics. The sun is out and will mean far less work
I should have enough to make the textured grey, the blue and the inner legs. Won’t be able to do them all at once though.
Saya
Looks not as sparkly here as in real life but that trim… it is seriously outstanding. I will be unraveling some of the trim into the componant strips to fill in gaps where needed. I think I have enough of the narrower trim to put around the skirt hem (my original trim is 5 strands the new is 4) as I am about 2m short of the wider stuff.
I can multistrand plait easily:

Even with single strnads of beads, double cut bugles at that… and 1.5m long… But the trim is three threads per strand that need to be kep flat… I may though just have to unravel some to complete the skirt properly.
Saya progress
Just the Saya at the moment. So guess who busted out her linen thread, beeswax and silver bullion trim of epic weight?

80 minutes for just one row. It’s not too bad but I can’t do more than that once every two days or so.
And finally because he demands his own blog:

I am surprised this was not already taken. I was tempted to go for mrfluffbutt but that was a little mean.
Colouring things
So today has been a messy day. Super mucky with latex and paint and dye and colour remover…
To start with the latex:
Asari headpiece fail
The latex was a bit gel-like in the tips so it just broke apart as I pulled it out of the mold. The thinner area around the face was fine so it was a matter of needing to put the mold in the dry heat for a while.
So I have more latex in the mold in the sun right now. As well as latex on my t shirt. I must remember to put the stinky plastic coveralls on…
Dye lining semi fail: I hte fabric treatments. I know it it to make the fabric look good on the roll but that is false advertising
But I seem to have some success in the end.
Dying noil: not so much fail as messy! All up the wall and under the washing machine… This is for my custom Jedi. Will probably be informal for RL but that’s fine
Going for a Naboo-esque vibe now that we have patches
Liara textured fabric: not fail! Woo! Just time consuming and expensive. The test piece is doing well but I want to wait for a day to see if it is still fragile. The latex test piece looks good too so I’ll be checking to see if that can be painted and remain tough and able to be sewn and worn.
Might test the other fabric too just to see how it does
And then work out what I want to use for all the blue….
Liara Progress
So far I have the basic bodysuit sort of vaguely templated. My usual 10 piece bodysuit with lines all over it method
I also have the jacket roughly shaped as well.
I was really debating whether to do her default ME3 outfit or the alternate, but the white and blue really does appeal oh so much
Tomorrow I shall test my theory on making the hatched texture fabric work. I may have to resort to latex after all but would prefer something less grippy.
Also, the N7 armour in ME3 really looks like carbon fibre in resin
At least the upper chest and shoulders.
New year, new list.
So I feel I may have overcommitted myself again this year. Okay not so much committed but for Wanting All the Things again. This is what happens after two years of absolutely dreadful side effects of medicine and coming off medicine and trying monoclonal antibodies…
Yes… the wonder drugs are either engineered proteins or monoclonal antibodies. It’s a bit like being a petri dish after doing a bio degree with a heavy emphasis on proteins, genetics and immuno9logy…
So, I currently want to finish the following:
Fairy Frau
Saya y galerilla y jubon
Liara (Lair of the Shadowbroker outfit)
Glinda Bubble Dress
Worth Sunburst
And a group project for AuckGeddon.
But I need to finish the upgrades to Shae (new greaves and thigh pieces) and Shaak Ti (hammering leather, sigh. Oh I have no photos of the progress so far…

All the cutting was done in about an hour. Luckily my hands are so crap I was able to cut and not risk cutting through the leather!
I need to pick up some dye, though I am really tempted to try to make my own natural dyes. Black is easy: take some old nails and vinegar:

Testing testing
Plugins ahoy! Apparently I can crosspost to lj from here
That’ll be nice
And there is the option for a plugin to post comments here as well. So we can but hope
Addit: and she works! Woo!
