January 2005A late 1840s dress from sheer Swiss cotton voile, the fronts are decorated with honeycomb smocking and shoulder seams with a narrow cotton lace of daisies. The bonnet is made with a foundation of heavy buckram and lined in silk taffeta, the outer covered with cotton twill and edged with ruchings of custom dyed pink silk taffeta.
A net petticoat and full gathered cotton petticoat gives the skirt some fullness yet kept the ensemble light.
In 2007 a house fire severely damaged the dress and bonnet. The dress has been washed and mostly cleared of stains from the soot. The bonnet requires far more resoration work.
