In 2005 I was invited to be part of the cast of The Secret Garden at Auckland Music Theatre. For this I offered to create my own dress (which will now be in stock at the theatre) from materials provided.
While the materials would not be my choice for an historical garment they worked for the purposes of stage and had a good drape and texture under stage lights.
I chose to use the day dress from 1906 in Patterns of Fashion 2 to be the base inspiration and I have started a similar gown in self striped cotton as the style has great potential for a tea gown with kimono sleeves and pleated bretelles.
