September 2004
Adapted to reflect historical shapes in the patterning of the gown.
The main gown is made from 7.5m of navy velveteen, lined in a twill.
The collar is made from metal silk tissue and lined in the velveteen.
The inner skirt and sleeves are made from the silk metal tissue and lined in a cotton damask dyed blue to be unobtrusive.
The mantle is a 3/4 circle, cut in two parts from a subtly striped blue wool fabric. The stripes meet in a chevron at the back. The guards are made from blue velveteen, a shade different to the gown fabric, and hand printed with a wood block.
All the metal was assembled by me from parts including 18 guage wire, metal flowers, plaque belts, brass beads and fine wire.
