February 2007
I was inspired by woodcuts in Omnium pene Europae, Asiae, Aphricae atque Americae Gentium Habitus ( Diverse clothing of the nations of Europe, Asia, Africa, and America) in creating a dress for the summer. I chose to make it from red linen lined in black linen to keep it as breathable as possible for the summer but also to keep in line with the colours most often seen in a variety of artwork not just woodcuts.
This ensemble is able to be worn a number of different ways to dress it up or down to suit. This style of dress is seen in many towns and cities of the region from Nijmegen to Cologne and the differences seem to come down to how the accessories are shaped and worn.
